About Me

My name is Eddie Yoshie, and I’m currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in combined mathematics and computer science at the University of British Columbia. With a strong foundation in programming and a passion for software engineering, web development, and game development, I’m eager to apply my skills in real-world scenarios.

Throughout my academic journey, I’ve worked on various projects, including my CookieJar Cookbook App and BunnyChomp web game. These experiences have honed my skills in implementing code systematically, creating comprehensive tests, and debugging efficiently. I am excited about exploring opportunities in software engineering, web development, and game development.

When I’m not studying or working on projects, I enjoy cooking Japanese home-style cuisine, working out using a PPL split, and playing Minecraft with my friends. I’m always looking for new challenges and learning opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills.

Projects

CodeBuddies

Won Best Beginner Hack out of 200 participants and 42 teams, creating a collaborative puzzle game for children of all ages, reinforcing computational thinking and improving communication skills.
Worked effectively and collaboratively under heavy time pressure, creating user stories, achievable timelines, a persuasive pitch and a winning showcase in 24 hours.

Mt. Stringmore: a 2-D autoscroll platformer

Created the pause menu and main menu UI with full functionality, including linear volume sliders and scene transitions using Unity and C#.
Communicating and collaborating effectively in weekly syncs, debating design choices, co-working on tasks, and reviewing/debugging code.

Fur-minder: a task-tracker with a virtual pet!

Designed and implemented an interactive to-do tracker, integrating gamified elements where completing a task improves the mood of the pet.
Collaborated effectively in a group of four to complete this project within 12 hours with a working demo.

CookieJar Cookbook Application

Designed and developed a cookbook application with a functioning UI which supports add, delete, favourite, view, save, and load recipes options using Java with JSON, and the Java Swing library.
Systematically created test cases, executed tests, analyzed test results, and efficiently troubleshooted difficult bugs until all features worked as intended.

Bunny Chomp Game

Employed JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to create a functional game with 6 unique levels, moving hit-boxes, score counters, and music.
